I just found this forum yesterday. I've owned Nautiques since '84 when I bought a new 2001 Ski Nautique. Since then I've had an '88, '91, '94 and '97 Ski Nautiques and currently I have a 2000 Sport Nautique. My plans are to buy an '05 Nautique 196 early next spring.

I met someone on our lake w/ an 05 196, and it is HOT! I really loved it! It really is the new, classic Nautique! It was the same color combo as the 196 from the 04 catalog, yellow and black. I'm sure you won't be dissapointed with your 7th Nautique![color=blue][size=2][b]I Nautique, therefore I am.[/b][/size][/color]Comment

I've always had a red stripe and silver cloud hull but I'm seriously considering a yellow/black combo. I wish that a dual exhaust was optional on the new boats. My '84 and '88 had dual exhaust and really had a good sound. The single exhaust is supposed to have less back pressure than the old system but it just doesn't sound as good!Comment

I would stick with the more "traditional" colors, especially if you are planning to trade in a few years. You'll have an easier time selling it. You're right about the sound of the 80's boats, but unfortunately the "cooler" sounding boats aren't tolerated as much as the quieter ones, expecially on early morning runs. I miss the sound of my '87 but don't miss the wake. The wake behind my '02 196 makes the loss of sound bearable. Have fun with the '05. You won't regret it!Ski on dude!Comment
