I could've sworn she'd already sold it or was letting someone else run it. Basically, someone got tired of doing all the work and having someone else take in all the cash. The place hasn't been the same since he died and the gun shop went with him. There was something backwoodsy charming about weapons browsing while you waited for a table.

When we heard this rumor, we got over there for a possible last meal. I felt sick afterwards, but there's no beating those hush puppies. Between Big Pines, Dawns, and Bayou Landing, is there any good place to put on ten pounds in one sitting around there anymore?

Too bad. The place hasn't been the same since he died and the gun shop went with him. There sure aren't many places where you can do some weapons browsing while you wait for a table.

I was out there a couple of months ago and ran low on fuel. I asked some locals where the best gas was. They looked at me kinda strange and said oooh, it's Sunday.... we don't normally have gas on Sunday. I knew then that I wasn't in Tyler anymore.

I finally got out there yesterday for just a day trip. I had forgotten how awesome it is to run the river. Here are a few pictures. The rider is a buddy of mine.

Nice pics, Brad! Don't forget to mention how many stumps and swamp monsters you saw, not to mention the back end of the Bermuda Triangle that causes boats to mysteriously disappear!

Yeah I stopped counting the swamp monsters but there were a ton....... as for the stumps I always take at least three spare props because you need them.......

How is the treatment for giant salvinia going down there. I don't tend to see it on the river, but it was awful on the big lake earlier this year. Check your trailer. We don't want that stuff over here, too.

There was none that I saw on Big Cypress and we never left it. I did not take my boat and the boat that went was a palestine boat. Lake tyler is safe. I can say that from what I have read on the stuff that its mostly on the La. side and that they have a barrier up to help control it.

The barrier is pretty much a joke and what good it can do is confounded by the people who think it's funny to cut through it in spots. It's actually in Texas just before you get to my father-in-law's place. I think they have been spraying pretty heavily because the stuff didn't get much worse after April.

I still have the email I sent to TDP&W nearly four years ago telling them they needed to do something abuot the acquatic vegetation on Caddo that was getting out of control. They always think it'll be cheaper to play wait and see. Now they're playing and paying catch up.

We were close to going last weekend, but realized it was labor day on Monday and we had plans. We'll definitely get up there in Sept and October. Best time of the year is here!

                            ETS and bchesley:

We are planning a Caddo trip the last weekend of September. We will be camping at the State Park. It would be great to have a few more Nautique people there to share the bayou with.

That would be sweet to have a Correct Craft/Nautique reunion on the Bayou. Let me see what we have planned.

Did anybody know that Texas has NO "natural" (not man made) lakes? Caddo was the closest but now has been dammed/modifed by man. Scientist believe that Caddo formed due to a log jam on the Red River. Logs accumulated from logging barge spills and, during a big flood, piled up in some region I don't know and created Caddo.

I always get a kick out of fellow Texans that ask me if the ski lakes, power plant lakes, and others we use are "natural" lakes.
