  • Equal Prize Money at 61st Masters

    Official Nautique Press Release:
April 21, 2021 - Nautique announced today that it will award equal prize money for every pro discipline at the 61st Nautique Masters Waterski and Wakeboard Tournament® presented by GM Marine Engine Technology. This initiative is Nautique’s next step in continuing to create gender equality and fairness and are proud to join other events and organizations from around the world that have decided to take on this historic milestone.

On May 28-30th 2021, the best waterskiers and wakeboarders in the world will meet at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia on the infamous Robin Lake to compete for the most prestigious title in their respective disciplines. As always, the Pro Masters divisions will include Women and Men’s Tricks, Women and Men’s Slalom, Women and Men’s Jump and Women and Men’s Wakeboarding. Each of these divisions will be awarded with equal prize money.

“At Nautique, it is consistent with our corporate culture that we are rewarding all athletes with the same incentive for taking home their respective Masters titles across genders and disciplines,” said Nautique President, Greg Meloon. “We have always strived to create events that are inclusive to everyone and that all athletes are treated fairly and equally, and consistency in our prize pursue is the next step in making sure we do just that. I can’t wait to see the best athletes in the world once again vying for Masters titles on Robin Lake this year!”

For 2021, the Masters overall prize-purse will increase to $144,000 USD. Each of the Pro Masters divisions will payout $18,000 USD per event discipline.

Nautique Athlete Whitney McClintock-Rini, a 6x Masters Champion said, “I am excited to be a part of this monumental change in towed watersports and proud to represent a brand like Nautique that is leading the way in gender equality. The women that aspire to compete on the world’s most prestigious stage deserve equal pay and utilizing the Masters platform to communicate this new direction to rest of the industry and event organizers is momentous.”

“I am so proud that Nautique is choosing to lead the towed watersports industry in gender equality,” said Nautique athlete Cory Teunissen, a 2x Masters Champion. “The female athletes have earned their place at the Masters and should be paid the same. Nautique has always been an industry-leading company, and the decision to support gender equality backs that up.”
