  • Bass Cat Pro Kennedy Claims Win

    Official Bass Cat Press Release:
Mountain Home, AR (June 6, 2017) –- Veteran Bassmaster Elite Series pro Steve Kennedy, in his first year on the Bass Cat Boats pro staff, earned his third Elite Series victory this week. With a final day limit that weighed 16 pounds 9 ounces, he vaulted over Day Three leader Mark Davis and New York angler Jamie Hartman to win on Lake Dardanelle in Russellville, Arkansas, with a four day total of 63-12.

Kennedy’s last B.A.S.S. victory came in 2011 at West Point Lake in Georgia. Prior to that, he set what was then the circuit’s four-day weight record at California’s Clear Lake in 2007. He also earned multiple wins on the FLW Tour and on the Professional Anglers Association circuit. He’s fished five Forrest Wood Cups and eight Bassmaster Classics.

“I can’t express the level of joy we have for Steve and Julia this week,” said Rick Pierce, President of Bass Cat. “Coming out of the Classic second was a bubble buster. This one brings it back into focus for the whole family.”

While Kennedy used a variety of lures to earn the title at Dardanelle, his Bass Cat Eyra was also a difference maker. Prior to the season, he’d said that he was “excited to be in a new boat. For most of my Elite experience I’ve had one of the slowest boats out there. Now I’m expecting to be one of the fastest. I feel like I’ve been giving up a few minutes, but I won’t be anymore. I’m going to have fun with it.”

Indeed, that statement proved to be prophetic. At Dardanelle he was making a 100-plus mile round-trip run each day to fish a small “pond like area,” and after the victory he reported that his Eyra “saved me 5 to 10 minutes each day. Over the course of four days, that’s a big deal.” Indeed, his margin of victory was a mere 1 pound 10 ounces, and the time he gained by being able to confidently run from one end of the lake to the other certainly allowed him to maximize his fishing time while others were still running to their fishing areas.

Because Dardanelle is only a two and a half hour drive from Bass Cat’s Mountain Home headquarters, numerous Bass Cat employees, pro-staffers and fans were on hand to see Kennedy claim the title. Kevin Short, a five-time B.A.S.S. winner who now serves as Bass Cat’s Tour Level Manager, summed up the way that everyone at the company feels about Kennedy: “He embodies everything we believe in at Bass Cat Boats: work hard, don’t settle for anything except winning, and family comes first.”
