Alrigth, I'm back with pics. Still got the same problem. I used a spare prop that came with my boat at Shasta. It's a 3-blade OJ, seemed to fit fine. I recently checked the clearance from the propr to the rudder on both of my friends SANs and they look to have more clearance from the prop shaft to the rudder. I'm startinig to think something might be wrong with the prop shaft. The 856 is still in the shop, so I haven't gotten to look at it with my old prop.

I tried the prop with and without the key, no luck either way. I really hope I'm just doing something stupid, but I've changed the 856 out multiple times and never had a problem. Any ideas? Thanks.
Ummm, I\'ll take the REAL 210 please. Thanks.

It looks like in that first picture there is still a little bit of the taper left on the shaft. That sure looks like you are trying to put a 1" prop on a 1 1/8" taper.

Maybe its just the angle of the pictures but it looks like the 4 blade is on backwards.

Are you sure it's on the right way?

              Hi there,
Compared to mine, the space between the strut and the prop is five times. Mine has only 1/2" between strut and prop. Conclusion could be your prop shaft is longer then usual.
              Good luck.

This is a longshot but check where the shaft attaches to the V-drive or Tranny. Make sure the nut is tight and that the shaft hasn't slipped out of the coupling an inch or so.

Thanks guys, prop is on the right way. The shaft slipping out sounds possible. checked it but it doesn't seem to go into a nut so I'm not quite sure how to check and see if it is tight or slipped out an inch.

It sounds plausible as we were out pretty early last season and there were some major drift wood issues at the Norther Cal reservoirs. I had a few run ins, but didn't think much of it because it didn't seem to be an issue at the time. However now that this prop won't fit I'm thinking something might be wrong.

I looked at mine today, and it has about 1.5" clearance, with the stock prop on an 02 SAN, not sure what prop that is, though. Good luck.

I run the 536 on my 97 ss with no problems. Here is a pic of mine. Not the best I zoomed it in photoshop but you can see there is quite a bit of clearance there. My guess is your shaft got replaced at somepoint with something other than stock or it somehow slipped.

After looking at Sbt3's picture, you might have a longer shaft on your boat...???

I have to agree with Rick's assessment....it definitely looks like the shaft has slipped where it connects to the V-drive.
