Not sure what is going on. I have a 95 SS. I usually run an Acme 856. The prop is currently in for repair and I'm headed to Shasta in 2 days. I borrowed an Acme 536 from a friend that came off of his 2002 SAN. The prop won't slide on the shaft far enough so that the ends of the blades clear the rudder. I figured the props would be universal for our boats, but am wondering if they differ slghtly by year of boat. I don't remember specifying my year and make of boat when I bought my 856 so I'm a bit perplexed. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong? Does it just not fit my year? Thanks!

Is it getting hung up on the key?? Try it without the key??
They all should be 1-1/8" bores.
If you are using a new key it may need to be filed down incementally. If I recall correctly, you first put a touch of marine grease on the shaft to prevent ceasing. You then slide the prop on and mark the position on the shaft closest to the bow. You then insert the key and may need to file it to get the prop to seat up to the line.Comment

tried it without the key and it didn't go up far enough to clear the rudder. I'll try a little grease. Funny thing is I never used any grease with the 856 it just slid right into place. What is the typical amount of clearance between the propr and the rudder?Ummm, I\'ll take the REAL 210 please. Thanks.Comment

My 2000SN has a 1" shaft. Make sure you have a 1 1/8th It will say on the prop 12.5X15.5X1 or something like that. Without the key it should slide on easily. Make sure there isn't a key stuck inside the prop.Nautiqueless in San DiegoComment

Grease is just for no siezing. Different metals can bond together, it's not required and a good fit is a good fit. These things should be spot on. I think the 536 was stock on the 2002.
I just checked my boat on the trailer. The nut is approximately 4" +/- inches away from the rudder, the prop should slide on far enough to expose the threads, so clearance should not be an issue.
I don't get it Sperbert, this is very odd. The 536, 644, & 856 should have identical 1-1/8 " tapered bores. If the 856 fit, the others should too. I went from a 536 to a 644 and it was identical in how it set on the shaft.
You may need to hunt down another prop.Comment

yeah, no kidding. I don't get it either. Twilight zone for sure. The 856 slid right into place, but the 536 doesn't seem to want to slide up the shaft far enough so that the tips of the fins clear the rudder. It was so close, maybe needed another 1/8th of an inch. I'm at work now, but am going to give it another try when I get home tonight.
How much clearance from the tip of the top fin on the prop to the rudder with the steering wheel straight ahead?Ummm, I\'ll take the REAL 210 please. Thanks.Comment

Is this prop for a 1.125" DIA. shaft? I would think it is since it came off an 02' SAN.Comment

Here's what is weird to me. If you look at the shaft and the rudder, there should be about 4 or so inches between them. Easily enough to slip the prop itself between them. This is viewing it from the side.
If you look at the prop, from the side again, really, the blades should not be any deeper than the hub of the prop for the most part, it's made from a solid piece as deep as the hub from what I recall, maybe a small amount deeper or shallower.
Is your rudder bent?? It should come almost straight down from the hull. You should take some pics and post them, something is funny.Comment
