    Tranny Fluid Change-Checking Level ???

    02 SANTE Excalibur.

So admittadly I probably let my tranny fluid change go about 20 hours too long, but took care of it over the weekend while on the lake. I knew that I probably overfilled it the previous change as it was always high on the dipstick, it's very confusing and difficult to read anyway. So here is what went down:

Pulled out about 1.75 qts with the suck up, kind of hard to tell without measuring it as the suckup only has 1/2 gallon markings. It was a bit dark in color, not too bad, but ready for a change for sure. Added 1.5 qts. Started boat and idled around for a bit.

Checking the level was hard. We would idle the boat in gear, put it in nuetral, I pull the dipstick and clean it and then shut it down and check level immediately. Always seemed high, like above the where the two marks are and above where the dipstick is flat. Did this several times and had it out once when the tranny was in gear and could see the fluid rushing around.

So I pulled out a bit of fluid a few times, probably close to a half a quart. Checked again and the fluid was hanging on both marks, but had come off the round part. Looked when it was in gear and no more splashing near the dipstick hole. Boat ran fine no noticeable difference in gear when pulling a rider or anything.

Sorry for the long post, I am just a bit confused, don't want to bubble my tranny fluid. It just seems very difficult to read the level properly and I followed the directions as best I could. Any suggestions on how to read this properly?? How much fluid actually stays in the cooling line etc?? Arghhhhh!!! Just concerned I might mess up the tranny.

Changing the engine oil is a piece of cake, and the V-drive has a built in low level sensor and behaves well when checking the level. Thanks in advance.
