Jump boat w/power straight to starter?

2022 PCM ZR4. Very intermittent starting.

I was looking at the starters on Nautique parts.com and they recommended putting direct power to my starter to see if it fires up. I thought this would start the engine, but all that happened was the starter spun.

Is that right? Is there a way to jump a boat like this (by basically bypassing any failed components other than the starter)....and basically saving your day on the lake

    Thanks much.

What was the issue and fix? Sounds like your Bendix was not engaging the starter gear.

I have used a screwdriver many times to bypass a failed solenoid, but I have never supplied power directly to the starter.

I was using a screw driver to connect the 12v+ (red) lug to the trigger wire lug. Starter would spin but not engage the flywheel/engine. As I think you know and as shown on the nautique parts web site you need to connect the 12v+ lug to the solenoid lug. It was just kinda hard to see and I wasn't oriented correctly.
