Factory flush kit install- not PERCO

I am trying to figure out how to install this kit to a ZZ6 engine. This is the optional factory install kit. I’m not sure if this is attached somewhere to the engine or if I would splice a line into the main water intake line similar to the Perko install kit? Is there a place that it is attached directly to the engine?

My DIY flush kit / run-engine-on-garden-hose kit consists of a PVC barbed TEE with 3/4" FPT for the hose adapter. I went with a male garden hose adapter and a sturdy cap with rubber washer to make a good seal. I then have a male-to-male hose adapter to hook up to hose feed water.





I did not use wire-reinforced hose for these short hose connector pieces as there is no viable way for these short hose pieces collapsing under vacuum. Also, wire-reinforced hose is a b!tch to work with.

I replaced the intake shutoff ball valve with a 3-way brass ball valve. The first inlet from the lake is attached to the factory inlet brass nipple, the second inlet I added a 2-foot hose just to make it an easy reach to the garden hose, and of course the outlet is to the engine. To me it's a foolproof system and is easy as pie to use. I will have to find a picture to post.

I had a Perko on an old boat which worked well, until the plastic broke while on the water.

Use caution that you don't over-pressure your raw water intake system with a 3-way ball valve. The way mine is set up, water flows out through the hull intake until the engine is started. Then the impeller pulls a vacuum (prime) and sucks in the amount of water it needs from the hose. The balance of the hose water continues to flow out of the intake.

Jonny it's a worthy discussion. I have the 3-way mounted directly to the hull intake fitting which then flows to the impeller. It's not after the impeller.

I crack the hose bib, start engine, then open it to about 3/4 so I do not force a large volume of water into the system. I do not see how this is any differnt than the Perko flush valve where water pressue closes the intake and water flow directly into the intake hose.

A local ski buddy of mine ran a 1984 Ski Nautique and he installed a Tee similar to what you described. He turned on the hose and promptly blew the top off the raw water strainer before he could start the engine. We re-plumbed the Tee to a setup like mine and fixed the problem. Just urging caution…

I am not sure how your system or the Perko would feed any differently, but I agree you do not have to hit the cooling system with 60+psi of city water pressure, but you do have to make sure there is sufficient flow.
