2008 SANTE 210 temp gauge removal.

Ok all. Trying to narrow down the process . I know the dash is Velcro’d on but being it hasn’t been removed at all since I’ve owned it and I’d rather not mess with that if I don’t have to. I can get to temp gauge pretty easily from underneath but I can’t see how it’s locked into the module to loosen it.

Reason being is I lost all readings Upon start up it jumps ever so slightly , but I’m pretty sure gauge is gonzo. Every other gauge is functioning and working , so. Was going to give it the ol swap or maybe send it for repair. Maybe sending unit is culprit? Maybe little trouble shoot advice is needed but that’s my currently plan. Engine is running and seeming to be temp normal. No codes strainer is clear.m

i removed the lead to temp sensor and gauge moves from bottoming out to around 1)5 when I remove the lead. However when I go to jump it it doesn’t move past that 160ish mark, just kind of flutters.

assume I’m good running for bit while in sort it out as the thermostat is functioning.

    any advice always appreciated.

In the old days it seemed like if you had a gauge problem it was almost always the sender. Unless you had some kind of over current event there was little chance the movement went bad. Since they move to "digital" systems (which I believe your 2008 would fall into) it seems most issues relate to noise on the bus or gauge malfunction. As much as I hate to fire the parts cannon and based on your test, I would be temped to just replace the sender and see what that gets me. Much easier to get to and less chance of colleterial damage as you rummage around somewhat blindly under the dash. That said, if your luck when it comes to issues like this is anything like mine, it's the gauge.....

I did in fact replace sending unit , I figured with NAPA 3 min aways and 22 dollar part ……why not just in case. Unfortunately no dice. So all
roads lead to the temp gauge it would appear.

There is a LCD Temp reading on the text display of the Tachometer, if you have Faria gateway box.
If that reading is for example "ET 162F " confirms the sender is receiving and OK.

Temp gauge gets data via a Canbus (network) from engine ECU then drives a stepper motor.
Back lighting is also Canbus controlled

So if the backlight works, then Canbus is OK, it's in the digital to motor circuit

As far as "removing" the temp gauge...I recently did this on my 2008 SANTE 210...and it was a pain. Easy to get to from underneath, but more about how they are "fastened". There were no screws or anything. the gauge has a black plastic "ring" that "screws" into the back to tighten against dash. However, while the ring has threads, the gauge itself does not. so it just seems like it bit down into the gauge and was stuck. so could not get it to "unscrew " (turning counter clockwise from the back) without the whole gauge spinning. Ended up having to have someone hold the front of the gauge (delicately) with some soft grip channel pliers (and a thin cloth so as to not scratch the front) while I took a screwdriver to the "notch" that was on the back of the ring and tapped with a hammer to move it counter clockwise. it finally came loose.

also the story had a happy ending in that (although I recently sold the boat) , the new owner successfully replaced the capacitor on the gauge (like in the YouTube video for "dead faria gauges") and it now works again!

          Hope this info helps!

I had completely forgotten about the main gauge (digital LCD ) having the temp in there. Thanks.

I just replaced all my gauges due to a gateway failure. I think your dash is the same... 4 screws on the face and you can pull the faceplate and all gauges as an assembly out. It should be simple to remove with this pulled out.

It did help and I was able to replace gauge without removing the complete dash piece on top and the pod.. could gain access from
behind with the under side dash acccwss panel
removed. All is up and running working . Thank you.
