    New to us 2022 GS24 won't start

    2022 PCM w 500hrs

Used it several times including yesterday with NO problems.

Now everything come up and when I hit the start engine button, fuel pump primes for a few secs and nothing else. Gas in the boat, kill switch in, in neutral, just swapped battery (thought that was it. )

Any ideas? Bout to go swap the starter relay after chasing one down. Anything else?

    Thanks
    Much

Possible that the Throttle Base Assembly is bad

Just seemed odd that it worked perfectly all day and the next morning nothing...would that fit with throttle assembly? I tried jiggling and moving in and out with no start.

Well, sat for 2 days. Scheduled a pick up. Tried starting and nothing. Got towed over. Tried one last time and fired right up. Like 10 times in a row, even after shutting down. I still let them take it to look at. I did jiggle those wires a little under the driver's seat. Not sure what those do. I still think it goes w a failing throttle, just not certain if warranty will replace it if it's now working.

This did all start after I slide the driver seat forward which did expose wires. I thought it was odd there was wires there but just sort of pushed them under the seat. Boat got rained on and this first no start happened shortly after that heavy rain. Boat got very wet under the lift. Was told that wasn't it bc they are made to get wet.

Schedule a pick up later that week. While being towed i fused with the battery lugs and the under seat wires. Then it started several times. They took it anyway and couldn't find anything else. Started for them several times. We used it twice w no problem.

Then after a couple hours tonight, someone set a water logged rope behind the drivers seat and it never started again. We fussed with those wires and more things got worse on the display.

Do we still think it's the throttle or could it be water intrusion in those wires? Not even sure what those wires do.

          Thanks much

I did let it sit/dry for 2.5 hrs and now it starts...It was a very minimal amount of water. Of course still could be intermittent throttle sensor issues.

Yeah this one is no fun for sure. I do some considerable amount of boating on Lake Erie and this would be an absolute non starter for me on that lake. No way I would take a boat out on that lake with that issue. I know the throttle plates are a known issue and I had to replace mine. They can cause all kinds of weird issues and yours sounds kind of, sort of like it could be one. If it were mine I'd start with the old "nut and bolt" process on the electrical. I'd also look real hard at the battery(s) and take voltage readings when the failure occurs. You may have a combination of factors like poor/loose connections along with slightly low voltage that when combined is effecting the electrical system into a no start condition.

I would also document the situation with the dealer so that if you do change out the throttle base and it resolves the issue you may be able to get reimbursed for the part.

See if the nearest Nautique dealer can tell you what year boats came from the factory with the “revised” Throttle Base Assembly. If it’s after when you boat was made, it not a matter of if it fails, just when.

Your symptoms match the behavior you get when it starts to go bad. It’s unpredictable, but gets progressively worse as time marches forward. Typically the “neutral” button for keeping the transmission in neutral as you rev the engine with the throttle stops working as well, why because the TBA thinks the boat is already in gear and ignores the button state.

it’s a design issue that Livorsi fixed in the newer ones.

Any advice on how to get nautique warranty to cover this? It's only happened twice, dealer couldn't replicate, just had it out all weekend and no problems. It's always in the back of my head out there and the warranty expires in April.

With all the technology we have available today you could document the heck out of the failure condition with a video that clearly shows the failed condition and various diagnostic checks you're performing at the time. It may be a bit much but if you're on a larger lake you could also make the case that something needs to be done as you fear for the safety of your family should you get stranded. That said, even though the control base is a well documented failure point its still a fairly expensive part and one they're not going use in the parts cannon without good reason. That and any good tech never likes to start replacing parts without being able to verify it's bad. Not only do you have the cost factor but you also introduce the possibility of adding another failure point to the original issue with the number of defective new parts we see these days.

Unfortunately, as stated before, I'd be very careful about taking a boat displaying this type of failure on any body of water that didn't have access to quick assistance.

Yea, I did take some videos. My local dealer is calling them today. We live on a 1000 acre lake and were sorta in the middle so never too far from home.

It's a long story, but we have a pretty powerful trolling motor on the front (we live on a 10 acre island and have to navigate some shallow weedy waters to get free and clear). Pretty sure it could get us home from any PT on the lake.

In a pinch, we've got a pontoon someone could grab and tow us.

I'd go this route. If you have the old TB, I think you have a solid case to press for a preventative maintenance replacement based on it being a safety issue. Keep pressing the dealer for them to produce a plan to repair. I completely agree with Bturner that I wouldn't take this boat out to any waters that didn't have available tow services. .

I'd also keep a detailed timeline of the problem occurances and actions taken to resolve. IIR, if the problem starts in the warranty period, was being worked but not resolved, you should still be covered (check this). If the problem repeats, create a video showing the no start.

                        Intermittent electrical problems suck.

i would say bite the bullet and buy a new throttle base. i did this to have it on hand when mine failed. 1 time no start on the lake as it was getting dark is all it took. the boat replicated no start at the dock once more. i replaced the throttle the next day.
i knew it would fail, just a matter of when
