What is the most likely reason or order in which i should look to find why there is gas getting into the bilge.

With this serious of an issue I would start at one end and work my way to the other replacing anything that looks remotely suspect but then again I have a boat catch fire on me so I'm a little sensitive to gas in the bilge.

    Likely causes will depend on...
    • How old the boat is.
    • How the boat has been maintained.
    • What maintenance schedule has been followed and performed.
    • When do you experience the problem. i.e. when the tank is full, near empty, any time, boat is hot..... etc.
    • Has any other repairs recently been preformed on the boat that could have moved/damaged the fuel system.
Most likely causes depends on the above but things like a cracked fuel tank, bad seals on the fuel filter/water separator or leaking vent lines or fuel fill hoses come to mind.

Known issue on my 2002 Ski Nautique is gas leaking around the wires on the top of the FCC. That's a quick and easy inspection to see if the epoxy is cracked and gas is leaking. The design was changed by 2006.

Here is the kit to fix https://nautiqueparts.com/repair-kit...trol-cell-fcc/
