2005 226 team ed. Steering. Faria

new member here, I purchased on 12-14-25 a new to me 2005 air natique 226 team edition with 450 hrs on her. Was finally able to take her out this past weekend and knowing I purchased a 20 year old boat there would be some issues I would have to repair.

1. need to install a new steering cable, I have done this on my previous boat which was a 2001 ski centurion sport bowrider, so I guess my question is has anyone done this fix and degree of difficulty? Do I have to take out floor panels and? Or is there a video somewhere that I can watch. Mechanical guy so I think I can handle it.

2 helm control valves knobs very hard to turn. Reading on this site it says
I need to change the 3 helm valves which I have purchased but having trouble locating them by the ballast tanks, any diagram on those?

3 starboard tank filling is this due to seacock not shutting or helm valve, a little confused by this since only one tank filling.

also all my Faria gauges are working properly and I know of the gateway issue so If I cut and plug the tubes to the gateway now will it save the gauges or is it inevitable that I will have to change them?

trying to get her dialed in before memorial weekend, any thoughts about the boat or any recommendations much appreciated.

I had a 226 years ago. I don't remember exactly where the ballast valves were but I didn't recall them being hard to find. There should be a cable running from the helm controls down, look for those to help identify? This might be wrong but for the center ballast it might be just in front of the V-Drive which you can access under the rear seat?

Re: Gateway. Mine went out because of dampness in winter storage; had nothing to do with water intrution due to the tubes going in. It was sensitive to a high moisture environment and our winter storage was less than ideal. Just sharing what hurt ours. Other issues were related to specific gauges breaking. This site has documented how to repair.
