Propshaft packing nuts - any tricks?

Here's a couple photos of the AL angles I'm talking about - as you can see, there's a couple lags on starboard angle, both backed out a bit, and no fasteners port-side... Appreciate any insight on the functional/fastening requirements of these guys...
