I have a 2007 SN 206 with about 800 hours. It has been the perfect running boat, never an issue until yesterday. After running for a couple hours yesterday, the check engine light came on and it would only idle. I'm planning to get a TechMate Pro so I can read the DTC code and determine what the root cause is. Does anyone have input on a short list of likely culprits for an idle only condition? I'm a DIY sort of boat owner and just trying to get insights. I also already have the manuals downloaded and reviewed, including the Diagnostic Supplement. Any thoughts or wisdom to share? TIA.

I agree with Spud, that is a good start as the same thing happened to me last month. My potentiometer cracked at the base and was just held in place by gravity. I spent $$ on a new one only to find out later a $16 replacement base is available, https://nautiqueparts.com/plate-potentiometer-dbw/
Here is the PCM Manual with the diagnostic codes for the 2007, not sure why they are not listed in the PN Manuals section

If it is potentiometer and you end up buying a new one, you send your ECM to PCM for reprogram. I was able to update the ECM at home using my Diacom with help from PCM.
Also since you have a 2007, look on this site for PCM's SUP 2009-01 for 2007 and 2008 engines that need CAM retard changed.Attached FilesLast edited by JayG80; 6 days ago.

The problem is almost certainly a bad TCP. But for a 2007 how you proceed depends on which ECM your boat has. 2007 was a transition year between the MEFI5 and eControls ECM. Step one is to look at the label on the ECM and see what that says.

I started this thread last August. I called my local Nautique dealer on Monday morning after my boat stopped working right. They promised to diagnose within a week if I brought the boat to them. I chose this path. They did have the boat in the shop and diagnosed by the end of the week and fixed a few days later. It was a cracked Throttle Position Sensor which they replaced and properly programed. I spent a few extra dollars compared to my normal DIY approach, but I was happy with the service and quick turn-around mid summer.
