I've got an 89 with 351 Windsor and it overheated a bit. Changed impeller and thermostat and water is flowing through manifolds and out the back fine but the circulation pump in front on engine isn't pumping water into the block to cool engine. I removed it and it looks and seems fine. I reinstalled it and the motor still heats up and won't cool down. The pump isn't leaking and the bearings on the shaft seems fine. Can't figure out why it won't draw any water that's being pushed to it? Any ideas??

Are you sure you mounted the water pump back in the correct orientation? It is common to mount the pump backwards after removing to change the impeller. Are you running the boat on a hose and seeing water out the back? If so, the hose may be forcing water through instead of the pump pumping it through.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina.
