Found this in the bottom of my 2012 200 w/ a 6L. It is metal. Never had any real work done to it other than an exhaust riser.

Grok to the rescue. After describing it and uploading a picture it suggested a pinion gear from the start, which reminded me that I replaced it last year.
I'll leave this post here for anyone else it may help.
