Prop Placement

I discovered that I was missing the pin on the end of my prop shaft (SAN 230). I did further examination and found some of the shaft slot that holds the key was visible. The prop is tight, and the boat performed excellent on the water with no vibration. Is it normal for the shaft slot to be visible? I do not want to pull the prop or tighten the nut if it is not necessary. I will replace the pin. See Pics

Shaft nut was almost hand tight loose. Torqued it to ~50 ft-lbs and put a new cotter pin in. Boat performed great on the water all day. I am going to put a wrench on it to make sure it is still tight. I found an old pic of the prop and the pin was rusty, so possibly whoever installed the prop did not use a stainless pin and it just rusted away?

I believe that's normal placement. Yeah, sounds like a non-stainless pin was used. Glad you found it and replaced it!
