Throttle Cable Connector

Have a 2000 Ski Natique with this style throttle

I have a small hardspot when shifting into reverse and am thinking that the cable or connector may be worn. I believe this style of throttle has these connectors on the back and am looking to confirm:



Also - The throttle mechansim is behind a plastic cover that does not look easily removed. Any tips for sucess to access?

When I have done my cables I remove the handle. There is a set screw on the bottom of it a the Phillips screw on the neutral button
once the handle is still off you can pull your vinyl cover. Mine had a screw in front under the dash one in the pocket by your foot and one on the back bottom. Unplug the radio and out it comes. Then you will be aboe to get to your throttle cables

Pop the cup holder out. You can see the mechanism through that hole, and might be able to adjust whatever is hitting.

I just replaced the transmission cable on my 2001 Ski Nautique this evening. I ran into a problem similar to what you're describing. One of the four screws/nuts that hold the throttle mechanism in place had the nut backed off a little bit, and it was hitting the moving parts when shifting. I wonder if that might be your issue.

My 98 used the short ones. I know because I ordered the long ones and they did not work. Cant believe the want $12 for the short ones

ahh crap...I ordered a long (tranny) and short (throttle) as that is what NP said to order. I hope David was correct

That may work, but both of my old ones were short. Here are pictures of the one that could not use the long version. It would hit and stick when passing the other plate.

That's what Im afraid of. Just hoping he is correct that the transmission takes the longer one. I may be able to reuse on of the old one's if salvagable but hoping for all new.

there is a follower ferrule that rides inside the cam on a post.. seen many of them get flat sided and cause a bind. I found a replacement for mine in the the plumbing section of brass fittings in the hardware store usually ace. your going to want to pull the entire control out on your lap to check all the hard points. but i would bet anyone that your bind problem is in that cam follower.

I took it apart this weekend and the connectors are both the short one's. I think the long one will work for the control cable since it doesnt appear to get in the way of anything but the throttle definitely has to be short.

I ended up using my old ones as they were in good condition, and did not want to deal with ordering again. Good Luck.

So the control cable needed the short one. I ended up reusing the old one as it looked ok. The long one would hit the screw that holds the assembly on like Jeff stated. I was super bummed after putting it all back together including the side panel and then finding that out.
