2002 SAN Python won't start

Boat just got back from gel coat/ fiberglass repair and before I took it out to the lake I fired it up in the driveway for a few seconds to make sure it ran, no problem.. got it to the boat ramp and would only turn over and not fire.. checked fuel pressure and had 10 psi. Changed out high pressure fuel pump and now reads 42psi. Boat will still not fire.. it cranks and wants to start but it won't. I've now moved on to spark.. found a weak spark at cylinder 1 and then again at the coil. Looking for advise! Questions:
1. Code reader: I'm thinking of buying the Code mate and wondering if that is a good idea..
2. ECM?
3. Distributor? Changed the cap, plugs and wires end of season last year..

Start with the simple stuff.

Is the lanyard connected properly? Sounds like what it would do if the lanyard was disconnected.

Yes, I should have added that.. the lanyard was bypassed by the previous owner and its on my list to repair.. however, I did check it and it's spliced together and seems not to have been bothered.
