2011 SANTE battery 1 won’t start

When the battery switch is on the battery 1 position the boat is getting enough juice to power up the helm and radio but when I hit start everything cuts off. Battery 2 works fine. Volt meter shows both batteries have a good charge.

What is the best thing to evaluate?

First check to see if all the connections are good,clean and are connected correctly. If that all looks good take battery 1 to a autos parts store and have them do a load test. It's possible to have a dead cell and still show good voltage on the battery.

Definitely sounds like you're not getting enough juice to crank the motor, so either you're losing it from some corrosion or a loose battery connection or the battery is weak. Even if you're showing +/- 12.6 volts, that doesn't mean it's kicking out the amps to crank the motor. A load test would show that.

Could also be a failing battery cable. I have replaced many over the years, although usually on older boats than yours.

Checked the connections and they were all good.Took the battery out and had it tested. It is a good battery. Next step will be replacing cables.

Did you try a known good battery hooked up to the current cables first? Before going full speed on the cables, I'd switch battery 2 into the battery 1 position and check it. I know you said it tested fine, but pretty easy thing to double check.

Id get a volt/ohm meter. it will eliminate all the guess work and part swapping.

Someone on that other boat forum ran into a similar problem. When he swapped battery positions the problem stayed with the position. He ended up having a bad switch. I personally have had 2 switches fail over the years. With both of mine when I unmounted it and started to disconnect the power cables they literally fell apart in my hands. My next step would be to do as suggested above. Swap the battery positions and see if the problem follows the battery or the position on the switch.

Yes i agree, swap the batteries first.
