1st Spring - Advice from Northerners

    Hi all,
This will be my first spring with an inboard, so I'm looking for advice on when it's okay to run my SV-11 TE. It was properly winterized and stored, and now that the temps are rising, we're excited to use it again.

That being said, we live in MN, and it will not fit in my garage. To be safe, should I wait till the threat of freezing weather is over? Will it be okay with some brief sub-freezing overnight temps? What do you guys do?

It was 85 here yesterday, but there's a very real possibility that we could see snow again, too. Obviously, I want to use the boat as soon as possible, but I also don't want to risk any potential problems.

    Thoughts from you veterans? Thanks!

As a GENERAL rule of thumb you should be fine as long as you're not experiencing freezing temps for more than 24 hours. There are of course exceptions like -20 periods for example. Even then you can avoid the major area's of concern in 10 - 15 minutes by draining the block, the manifolds and the vDrive and just leave them dry if you think the weather is going to get that bad.

If we get to -20 again this spring, my sanity will break before anything on the boat.

So a mid-20s overnight frost shouldn't harm anything.

      Thanks.

Mid 20s no, -20s maybe but you should see that one coming and drain everything.
