Here in Georgia I have never seen the water bottle I leave on the shelf freeze in my unheated uninsulated barn . I still winterize all my boats to 0 degrees. Just when I start thinking I am wasting time and money I read a story like this.

Thinking that a garage or barn will stay above freezing due to ground heat is not realistic. I store my boat in northern MN. It hit -35 one morning and -39 the next. I checked my garage temp. -12 on the morning when it was -39. Yes, an enclosed space dampens the outside temperature swings. But it does not prevent freezing. Not even close.

My point was not to encourage anybody to rely on an unheated space - I agree that would be foolish. And as was the case in Texas, even counting on having heat can fail.
My intention was more to explain why the boat didn't freeze. If he spray-foamed the walls AND the ceiling, it could be R12 or higher (depends how thick) which is going to be more than the typical uninsulated barn or shed. And the ground in Texas is a lot warmer than in northern MN (Like 68 degrees vs 42). So even if it was in single digits air temp outside, its plausible the interior of the building stayed above freezing which explains why his boat is OK.

Presuming the floor is not insulated, the ground under the building is going to be emitting a lot of heat which is captured by the insulated building. The mass of dirt under the building is a giant thermal reservoir. There is going to be heat flowing up from the deeper dirt which will maintain a temp near the average annual temperature. Up here in Minnesota, that average is like 43 degrees. Down in Texas its likely somewhat higher.

I'm glad to hear your boat fared the snomageddon OK. Winterizing an '18 G23 is super easy. Once you get good at it, it takes maybe 10 minutes. Pull all 9 blue drain plugs (they're thumb screws so no tools needed), empty your strainer (also no tools), start the boat while out of the water and run it to about 3k to blow out any remaining water, and drain the ballast pumps and shut off the power while the ballast valves are open. The hardest part is tracking down all 9 drain plugs, but there's a diagram in your manual.

Man I bet thats a relief! My boat is stored at pier 121 marina on lake lewisville (dry storage). Did my annual service and pulled some rv antifreeze through the raw water side (ZR6 partial closed cooling) before putting it away. Heading out there today to put eyes on it, hopefully all is well. Nice to see someone else on here in the Dallas area!

I just heard from Buxton Marine and I have officially dodged a bullet.

The only issue they were able to find after performing the on-site water test and then taking the boat out for an actual test run is a cracked t-fitting at the exhaust manifold.

We did tie the record low at DFW Airport of -2 degrees... It was extremely cold here for like 7-10 days before we got back above freezing.

The lows were between mid single digits to mid teens for 3 days, highs were mid teens to mid twenties for 5 days. The 14th I legit got ice crystals in my beef after leaving it outside in the snow for an hour. It was farking cold
