Gas gauge accuracy

I’m trying to learn my gas gauge and am curious if there is any conventional wisdom I should know? Sitting still in the water today, the gauge registers 1/8-1/4 tank. At 20 mph, the gauge registers slightly over 1/2 tank. That seems like a lot of variability. Which would you expect to be more accurate?

Probably sitting still. Whatever lets the tank sit most flat will give you the most accurate reading.

Normally the gauge reads a little lower than actual level. Take note of how many gallons it takes to fill it from a certain gauge reading, and then you'll know.

Jeff is correct. Additionally, some gauge sending units (float in the tank) get worn over time and can not read as low as it actually is..

1/8 to 1/4...I would be nervous...But that is just me...

Don't know if its true or not, but i thought i read somewhere that you get less condensation in your tank if you keep it full. So mine is always between 1/2 and full.
