New upholstery skins or go local?

My boat (2000 Air) needs to have the entire interior (except starboard combing pad) redone. I have started my research with local shops. I have been quoted $3500-5000 complete. Every shop I have talked to, say they can have logos embroidered no problem.
My questions are: Would it be better to have a local shop do the job complete or get skins from Christie's and do it on my own? or get skins from Christie's and take them to the local guy and have him install them?

From what I understand, the only shop that can legally use Nautique's logos (other than Nautique) is Christine's.

I have ordered skins from Christines in the past, and had a local shop install them. The results were very good.

Ok, I went through this a few years ago on my old boat. First of all, redo the starboard combing pad. If you don't do it now, you'll be forced to do it in another year or so.

Logos. Technically nobody outside of Christine's is allowed to reproduce those logos. That said, Nautique does not go after any embroidery shop or upholstery shop that reproduces them on a Nautique. I know this because I called them and asked. They were very clear to say "We're not in the business of chasing down shops that do this. It's bad business."

i am not really concerned about the logos....

the starboard combing pad skin was replaced 8 years ago, it looks brand new, boat has not had much use since then. someone tried to steal my speakers and slashed the pad

Then just do a price comparison. Contact Christine's and tell them what you need. Get a quote from your local upholstery shop for "installation only" and another one for the whole job.

I don't care how good you take care of your upholstery or how little use the boat got, a 8 year old combing pad isn't going to match the new upholstery. You're going to invest a good amount of money to update your boat, you might as well get the combing pad replaced at the same time.

As far as local or skins, I think if the vinyl the local company will use is the same quality it comes down to price comparison.

Just did my boat. Paid under $3k for the when boat. Had an upholstery place do the logos. Looks awesome! Totally worth doing the interior in it's entirety. I tried doing a sunpad on my own. I'm handy with a staple gun but it was a PITA. Best money I have spent on the boat having a pro do it. They did 99% perfect. When I went through with my eye for detail made them redo a few things and they did it no problem. If your in the Houston area PM for name.

thanks for the info guys. I got quotes from christies, and 2 local shops. 1 local shop and christies were the same, local shop was entire job though. other shop was probably about the same as getting the skins then having them installed
