I have a 2003 SAN with the PCM 5.7 motor and they don't have impellers list for any PCM chevy motors.

I know this is an old topic, but does anybody have a "HOW TO" on changing an impeller? I have 2005 211 and have always had the dealer do it, but I would like to know how to do it myself.

Someone else just posted a step by step (with pictures) guide on PN about a week ago. I used it to change my impeller for the first time. Was easy to follow and relatively easy to do. Just be sure to mark the top of the pump so you put it back in the right way!

Change it every year without question............

impeller failure is not just a result of the rubber breaking down but also from sitting in the same position in the off season and creating a set bend in the blades thus preventing correct cooling. I have replaced one for a friend that would not pump at all and it had no breaks and was just mildly deformed. Lose your impeller and run the boat too long and now you need new exhaust hose.

I have done mine three times on my 2005 211. Now it takes me all of 20 minutes, most of that time is gathering tools.

1. Remove red cowling
2. Remove serp belt
3. Rotate pump pulley to align bolt access holes, remove 3 front bolts
4. Pull pump face and swap impellers
5. lube impeller and re-assemble reversing steps above
6. Get a lower back massage as it will be sore from bending over the motor

I saw that, but isn't that a different engine? Does it still look the same? I have never worked on a boat, so I am very new to doing my own service.

If you have an Excalibur it is really easy, there is a belt tension-er to remove the serp belt and then as Mike noted above. You will also replace 4 o'rings which should come with the new impeller, main ring and 3 at the bolts. Impeller housing should also be marked "top" for re-assembly.

I just got my impeller at Napa, it was about 25 bucks compared to the 37 that westmarine, skidim, and my dealer wanted to charge.
