Had a little issue pop up with the 2013 G23 this summer. I feel like its probably something simple I'm forgetting but wanted to ask here before taking it off the lake and an hour away into the dealer. Boat starts, run drives fine. Can cruise around the lake for 30 minutes or so or 1 wakeboard session and then it will start overheating and go into limp mode. I'll shut it down when its gets too hot and just let it sit and cool off if we are on the other side of the lake. It would overheat at idle and dissipate at speed but now its starting to overheat even when cruising after a while. The screen on the bottom of the boat is clean, the strainer is clean, I replace the impeller every season, there is no extra water in the bilge (more than normal anyway which is very minimal). I did a little reading in the forums and saw there was recirculating coolant pump and another pump for the intercooler but that sounds like the motor still runs fine just has less horsepower? Someone also mentioned the strainer starts to suck air after awhile. (If I run through a boggy area of the lake when channeling it will suck up some sediment into the strainer so Im guessing that is working OK) Any ideas before I pull the boat out?

That sediment could have caused the current impeller to fail early. I would check that first. Also check that the O-ring is in place on the strainer. If it is not, it will suck in air and cause an overheat condition.
Also, the early '13 G-series boats with 550 engines had a recall on the intake grate on the bottom of the boat I believe. You might check to see if that has been done on yours.

Jeff... i actually have your old 2013. I checked the impeller, that was first thing I checked. O-ring on strainer is fine. If you didn't have the intake grate recall then it hasn't been done. Boat has been pretty trouble free so haven't spent much time at the dealer.

Ah, you have the upgraded intake then!
I wondered where that boat ended up. I miss that 550! It was trouble-free for me as well. I loved that boat!
I don't know of any other common issues with the cooling in the 550. That boat is an early '13 and one of the early 550 engines as well, so there may be other things that have been changed for later 550 boats. Not sure on that.

You pulled the impeller and its in perfect condition? No issues with any of the fins?
which section of the water flow has the screen in/around the tranny? In would try to find that filter screen... I believe after the water pump... As the hose goes down into the tranny.
the only other issue I've ever heard of is a set of clogged Catalatic converters... A weird mineral combination in someone's lake water caused them to clog. Do you get nasty hard water spots?2019 G23 450

nyryan... impeller was perfect. I have maybe 5 hours on it. I will check some of the hoses after the water pump. I didn't know there was another screen.
nohlan_4...it doesn't throw any codes besides DTC higher than normal temp. Our lake has hard water, but I put on almost 400 hours on my last Nautique in the same lake and no issue. It leaves water spots, but nothing nasty or bad or cant be wiped off.

This might do it...found a contact at PCM by working with DIM when I was servicing mine (2013 409) and was trying to figure out exactly what to do...the screen was partially clogged and was curious if I could take it out and replace...was surprised that the anwser was to remove completely
