Yes, one bad spark plug would not explain your symptoms. All you would expect from one bad plug is a miss at idle and speed plus a bit of a loss of top RPM/speed.

Unless the engine was really out of time. Then, depending on which cylinder it is on the firing order, it could possibly cause those problems.
