Winterizing 216 Ballast Tanks

Anything specific I should know before I attempt this? Does anyone have any real intructions, or do I just disonnect the hose from both ends? How exactly is this done...

Winterizing Ballast Tanks

My dealer gave me a suggestion that worked well for me. I put a small bilge pump in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket and pumped anti-freeze into the tanks via my Fake-a-Lake.

Not an exper here, but here is what I do. P.S. The owners manual kinda SUCKS here.

Open the drains at the front of the engine to get the gross out. Then BACK blow the intank pumps with low pressure compressed air (cork with a hole in it) through the pump out on the side. You have to put a cork in the tank vent also. Don't pound the cork in the vent to hard so it can act as a relief.

Lift the trunk floors out and gently rock the tanks. Also give you and idea of how much water is inside the tank.

When nothing but gurlging and air is coming out of the tank drain........OPEN the fill valves, the cheap leaking flo-rite and the ball valve on the sea chest or scupper(brass inlet). Put the plug on the tank drain........and blow the water out of the inlet or fill line till nothing comes out the bottom of the boat.

I put RV antifreeze into the tank through the tank VENT AND back through the pump outlet. Seems all the water settles in the pumps, as would be expected. I usually shake the tanks to "mix". I use an IV type bag to put the RV antifreeze in (for those of you with kids, your wife will recognize the IV bag from a sits bath...but it works great). Usually only put in about a pint or less of antifreeze.

Spring, I back fill the tank through the vent with a garden hose and drain out the aintifreeze throught the tank drains and out the bottom of the boat.

This is somewhat based upon the procedure from my dealer.

Does this procedure do the hard tank and soft tank? I have both on mine from factory.
