    Excalibur quits

2005 model 196 with Excalibur engine, idles around 700 rpm, when throttle opened sharply, gear in neutral and throttle returned quickly to idle, engine stalls, same thing under load, when stopping. Any ideas....

    RE: Excalibur quits

Have not had experience with this before but I might look at these components:

    Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
Main engine harness connection (are you running in salt?)
Hook up a timing light and see if anything weird happens in the ignition system just before it stalls
    Fuel pump (unlikely but possible)

Sounds like a iac problem more than a tps becauise it does not bog on accelleration. Do you have a limited or se version of the boat?

I'm not real mecanical but why would it matter if it were a limitied or se? The only differance I can think of would be keyless ignition.

I'm with nms1991 on the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor. The function of the IAC is to maintain a specific idle speed, but to ALSO prevent the engine from stalling on rapid throttle closing. The IAC should open up when rpms increase off idle. If not, the engine will stall when the throttle is rapidly closed.

Not trying to hijack but could the Idle Air Control Module also be responsible for the high reving my ZR6 (2005) does when shifting out of gear?

The reason why I asked is because on the limited with the Faria gauges idt would have a message in the lcd display of the tach if it had a sensor failure and tripped a code. J2nh your problem is a common complaint with the 6 liter, the problem I think it is the IAC cannot react fast enough for that size of engine. Other manufactures have had problems with the same problem on the 6 liter and up engines.
