    Steering Cable Maintance

Is there any way to grease the steering cable? Mine isnt the hardest to turn but it isnt great. I know they run over 2 hundo for a new one so any preventative maintance would be good. I didnt see any zerk fittings. Can the silver tube (for lack of discription) at the end of the cable be dis-assembled and greased?

    Thanks

    nope

To the best of my knowledge there is no maintenance that can be performed on the cable. Take the cable off of the rudder and turn the rudder by hand. Should be easy with no binding. Next check the steering with the cable off of the rudder. If still hard then the cable needs to be replaced. Not real difficult but you are correct they run around $200. If memory serves me correctly they are teleflex cables and if you know the length you might be able to shop around.

If you have th orginal cable on your 90 you have done very well. I ended up changing the cable on my 99 after just 3 years. Once they start binding there just isn't anything else you can do.
