The motor turns over quickly but will not fire. I checked the choke and it is closed. This is the first time trying to start it this year. It ran fine last year when I winterized it. I believe I remember that the fuel pump would buzz for a second or two after the key was turned on, but I'm not sure. Now there is no noise when I turn the key except for a faint click on the back of the motor. Should there be a noise from the electic fuel pump? Any ideas? Thanks guys.

RE: 1996 GT-40 will not fire
You should be hearing the fuel pump click on. It should be that electronic whirring noise. Try replacing the fuel pump relay, it sounds to me like that seems to be your problem. How about \"Chales\"?

RE: 1996 GT-40 will not fire
I got one at my local auto parts store, I'd give you the part# but I don't have the boat anymore. Just take off the relay and take it to any auto parts store and see if they can find one.
The relay(s) on my '99 were located on the back of the motor, to the left of the ECU. But the earlier GT-40's may be different. They are black cubes with wires running to them.
I would get a multimeter and check to see if the relay is getting the propper voltage first though. How about \"Chales\"?

RE: 1996 GT-40 will not fire
Same thing happened to me this year and the switch for the lanyard (kill switch with red cord) was bad. I connected the two wires on the switch which bypasses it and that fix my problem of the fuel not pressurizing. Give that a try.

Doesn't seem to be the kill switch. When I remove the clip I don't hear the click anymore. The dealer says they have a relay in stock, part number R130011, but they are 2+ hours away and I'm hoping I can get one at a local auto store. Does anyone know what the part number would be for NAPA, Autozone, etc.? And as you look from the back of the boat, it looks like there are 2 relays to the right of the computer? on the backside of the motor. The part number from the dealer doesn't match anything on either of these. Does anyone know which one it is? Thanks.....

I had something similar happen to my boat this past week and it ended up being that the wire that goes to the fuel control cell was disconnected. I just connected the wire and it started right up. You may want to check that too.2008 Super Air Nautique 210TE

Can someone please tell me how to identify the fuel pump relay? The local auto parts store says if I bring it in, they will try to match it up since the number I have for it doesn't cross reference. (either Pleasurecraft or Mercruiser) As you are looking from the rear of the engine, I see 2 relays. Is it the relay on the left or the right? Thanks.

Afetr looking at both relays, they look like the same unit. I then unplugged the relay on the left and the click stopped when turning on the ignition. I tried the other relay in the place of the one on the left and I got the click back. But still no power to the fuel pump. I even switched them so they were both connected and I get a click when turning on the ignition, but still no pwer to the pump. All the wiring looks OK. Anyone have an idea. I tried the suggestions above.

I have a 1994 Ski Nautique 19'6" 310 hp engine, ProBoss 5.8 w/ EFI. this weekend, it didnt fire up at the ramp, but back at the house it did. next day though, not good. it turns over fine, but no fire. i use to hear the fuel pump, but now i dont. from this thread, i'll check the battery terminals, and check the relay. i did notice the one black relay in the back, with a metal plate coming off one end, was just hanging. i didnt ever recal it hanging, so i am now suspect that it needs to be grounded or attached with the plate. i'll also check the kill switch.
any other suggesttions would be awsome. please pass along any other suggestions. thanks again.

RE: GT-40 not fire
I had a bad connection on the relay to the left if looking from the top. I would turn on the key, hear the click, but no pump. When I would squeeze the relay connection, the pump would kick in. Cleaned all connections inside the connector and it is all good now.2008 Super Air 210 Team
