So I am finally up and running with my rebuilt engine.
1999 Ski Nautique
351 Pro Boss
New To me transmission. Sat on shelf for a few years, but seems to work fine.
Idle issue: It seems as though the EEC (computer) does not consistently handle the engine RPM at idle.
Today at the lake:
1. When first starting the boat at launch, it idled really low~590 rpm, and eventually stalled. I moved the throttle cable bracket that bolts on to the intake a hair toward the stern to raise the idle. Started it, idled around 750. Did not stall. When I shift into forward gear, it significantly lowers the engine RPM and the engine seems on the verge of stalling for a split second here or there. It doesn't stall. We go boating. This
2. Each time the boat starts, it revs to ~1000 rpm. Most of the time, it does the "settle in" thing a few seconds later where the RPM lowers to 750. Sometimes, it does not lower. It idles around 1000 or 1100. When pulling skiers & riders, if we are idling ~750, we seem to be on the verge of stalling when we shift into forward gear after starting the boat.
3. On the way back to the dock, we drove 35mph, and then when I gradually brought it down to idle @ no wake buoys, it ran great @ 750 rpm (the best that it did all day in idle / forward gear). I put it in neutral at the dock, did not shut it off, and then it idled at 1100-1200.
Lake temp is in the 70s.
Ideas of what needs adjusted?
Doesn't the computer handle the idle?
Thanks,
Dave
