intermittent horn with click click then a beep

sometimes when i press the horn it works and sometimes i get click click and a beep coming from somewhere in the helm...intermittent short? anyone had this?

Mid 1990's to mid 2000 Correct Craft boats had wiring to the helm that was barely adequate, if that. Additionally on some boats, the horn got power directly through a switch that is not sealed, and after a few years of use, and possibly some water getting in side the switch, it makes poor contact, and the horn cannot get enough amperage to sound.
You can sometimes take the switch apart, and clean the contacts, or replace the switch with a new one. The problem will reoccur.

A more permanent fix is to add a relay that gets power directly from the battery positive, and ground the horn directly to the engine block, or negative battery terminal, and use the original wires going to the horn to switch power to the relay coil.

Every car I know of uses a relay to control the horn.

However, that is just a guess. is it a 1964 VW Baja bug? A roadrunner bird? When asking a question about a boat, we need to know year, make and model.

Sorry it is 2008 210....maybe it is shorting by the horn itself.

when i had my 92 torn apart, i thought i might take the time to see why my horn did that also. When i pulled the horns out, they were a big block of rust, they would not make noise even hooked directly to a battery.

i bought some highway horns at pep boys and added a relay to get them the correct power. now my boat turns heads quick when i honk it.
