2001 super air ballast question

I am turning the valve under the engine cover then the tanks fill. I can not empty then though until the boat is on the tralier. Has anyone every replaced the ballast pump? The pump will turn on to fill but not empty. Was wondering how hard it is to change that pump, any help will be appreciated

there is 2 different pumps, one to fill and on to empty. first off the seacock under the engine hatch should be open. Next you need to open the valves located behind the drivers seat(turn counterclockwise) then hit the drain button on the dash keypad.

if your doing all this and it still doesn't drain check to see if the light illuminates on the button for empty? if it does and the pump does not turn on, then its the pump, maybe try tapping it see if it will go, sometimes if they sit they just need to be tapped to kick back in as they can seize up so to speak. if all else fails its not that hard to change

If your boat still has the factory ballast setup, then yes, the seacock valve has to be open. The 2001 fills and emptys though the thru-hull inlet.

If your boat still has the stock set up....... do yourself a favor; cut it out and replace with a jabsco / bag system.

You should have 1 fill and 1 drain pump on the stock system as prev stated above. They are in line with each other, pushing water thru the other pump. Attwood Tsunami pumps are direct replacements. I just replaced my drain pump with a 800 gph Tsunami. But as far as accessing the pump on your v-drive i have no idea...on my dd the drain pump is under the hatch.

It is kind of a Pain to turn the valve open closed open closed...eventually i will concur with wakeslayer and get the hard tanks out. eventually....

Yeah I want to pull the stock ballast. I do alot of surfing and hate that it fills up both tanks, anytime you fill it. I replaced the pump, thanks again for all the input.

Do you all keep the seacock open all the time? A friend told me he does but I want to make sure that is right. We use the ballast daily unless we are waterskiing - would we close it then or does it matter?

If you leave the seacock open water can, and in the case of my boat will ,push into the tanks. If your trying to ski, I'd make sure the tanks are drained, and then close the seacock to be sure they stay empty. BKH
