    Steering

98 196 has very stiff steering. Just bought the boat I had a 01 malibu that was much better. This boat was sitting a lot and needs some LOVE. Any lube points that I can start with?

More than likely it needs a new steering cable. Check out some of the site sponsors like whitelake marine for a new one. Let them know you heard of them through this site and you should get a discount.

      RE: Steering

Got the new steering cable from White lake. Got all the connections unbolted. Now!!!!!! Which way would you pull out the old one? I was thinking taping the new rear section to the old front sections and pulling from the back of the boat. in other words pulling on the old cables rear section bringing the new cable in through the front of the boat. Any pointers from people who have done this would be great.

That is the right way of doing it. Watch out for grease on anything you don't want it on. Get a couple people to give you a hand. Easy job.
I have yet to do my SAN, but I believe that has a rack on the back end. If yours is like that, cut the old one off and go rear to forward.

I also replaced mine a couple months back and have taken it out on the water twice since. I noticed a vibration when accelerating in the steering cable...was not there untill i changed out the very stiff steering cable. My thought is it has to be related to maybe the rudder... which would require the removal of the gas tank and ballast to access. Wanted to get some thoughts before i make more work for myself...

            Thanks
