my dash waring light has come on, can any one tell me what this is warning as the book says engine temp. but both the digital gauge in the rev counter and the normal temp gauge say that engine temp is around 170. the engine dose not feel to hot. the light will sort of flicker on and off, rather than just come on and stay on. if I rev the engine the light goes off. any ideas

That light can only mean two things - high engine temp or low oil pressure. I don't believe anything else will trip that light. looking at the other gauges both oil and temp gauges are reading good. 40 psi oil pressure and the engine temp reads between 159-175.
I have had the heat exchange off, so I wouldn,t rule out a heating issue. when I ran the engine had a lot of bubbles in the coolant and went very froffy but cleared up, and I had to top it up a few time while getting up to heat.
the hoses on the heat exchanger did not get very hot. which way dose the water flow through the engine ? as the exchanger did not get hot.
is there any issuse with air lock/ bleeding air out when filling up the coolant system ?
also dose the warning light have a diffrent sensor than the gauge?
I did take off the top hose on the heat exchanger( cicrulation hose) and started the engine, water came out the heat exchanger but not at a great speed like I thought it would.
as for the oil pressure I have not got this conected as I have just replaced the wiring harness and the oil pressure switch part number R020015A the connector has broken. could this be a problem,or dose the switch work by going to earth with low pressureComment

i would bet that the oil pressure switch being disconnected is the problem. not so sure about the oil pressure switch,as I understand they work by when they go in to fault mode they go to earth to make the circuit, this not being conected cant happen, I think !
after looking at the water flow drawings, the hose I removed should of had water coming out of it, and it did not. when fitting the new engine wiring harness I had to remove the alternator and belt, so this may not be driving the circlation pump.
the routing of the belt looks right, but not sure about tension, can you put more tension in the belt?Comment
