has any done the conversion from points to electronic ign. does the 99 dollar kit work or is it better to do 350.00 dollar swap were you change the whole distributor?

Just go for the 99.00 kit. It gives you dependability, which is what the main reason for coverting over is. There is very little performange to be gained. My 92 had the conversion by the previous owner. I never touched it, it worked flawlessly. Ski dim will hook you up with the correct stuff.
Have fun and once you convert it, then its one less thing to fail and mess up your day on the water.2005 Ski Nautique 206 SE, Acme 422, PP SG 8.0, ND Tower

points to electronic
Crane now makes a converson kit XR1 for Chevrolet & Ford, includes a built in revlimiter. Go www.cranecams.com look under new products. Very reasonableWLB SS -201

I would stick to marine conversion kits only- we don't need any planet nautique members getting blown to peices here.

ignition
Perhaps you ought to check out the product. The difference between the automotive dist and marine is the sealed cap and vented housing, same as industrial equipment. The points spark an arc and the electronic have no visible arc to create an explosion. Crane's XR1 is a newer electronic version, with a bonus rev limiter.WLB SS -201

Regardless of the technical details about the product, sticking to marine-approved parts in ANY ignition system is sound advice.

I have the pcm conversion kit in my 84 20001.Works great, its been in there for atleast 6 years.I looked everywere for one,the only place i found one is at the correct craft dealer,i think it was about 150.00.I also had the 99.00 one on my 81 ski tique. It also gave great service with no problems.
