    Mold on Upholstery

What poduct is best for getting mold off of my Nautiques upholstery? I need the mother of cleaners here, it's got a good build up over the past year.

    RE: Mold on Upholstery

You will hear a lot of responses on this...including the use of Magic Erasers....DO NOT use Magic Erasers they are Melamine a very fine grade of sandpaper. When the mold comes off by using them so does the clear protectant coating that protects your vinyl. Unfortunately the best and safest thing is water with a little bleach (keep it off the stitching) to kill the mildew, followed by 303 protectant. Then put it in the sun to let the sun bleach out the mildew stains. Starbrite and 3M both make mildew removers but they are not recommended for use on your vinyl by the vinyl manufacturer. Wish there was an easier answer as I have some to get rid of as well.

Once mold spores have taken root it can quickly and easily spread to other areas. try one of the following products; West Marine Mold & Mildew Cleaner, Mold Off, or Starbrite’s Mildew Stain Remover.

For these cleaners, first wipe down the whole cabin of the boat. Next, spray it down with one of the recommended cleaners and let sit for about 20 minutes. Then take a soft bristle brush and scrub down the inside of the boat. After that, rinse with warm water and dry off with a clean dry towel. In addition, let the boat sit out in a dry and well ventilated area for several hours to remove any remaining moisture.

STARBRITE MOLD AND MILDEW STAIN REMOVER.

I have tried so many different types of mold removers. NOTHING compares to it. Put it on let it soak for a little. Get a rough scrub brush and go at the mold after letting it sit. Then wipe away with a towel.

After you remove the mildew and let it dry completely make sure you sprasy it with 303 or some other protectant to keep the vinyl soft snd shiny.

I don't know how well it will clean mold stains, but this is the best vinyl cleaner I have ever used. It takes some elbow grease, but the finished product is well worth the effort.

I believe Fantastik is no longer recommended for the vinyl. I think they changed their formula a year or two ago and by doing so made the vinyl banned list.

In talking to GT's customer service they banned Fantastik because there are too many versions of Fantastik now and they cannot guarantee that any of the new formula variations won't harm the vinyl. Fantastik Heavy Duty is the closet to the original but they still don't recommend using it. It won't take mildew off any way.
