    Depth finder bad readings

My depth finder (humminbird) is quite frequently giving me false readings in the 1-2 feet range when I'm in water much deeper than that.

#1 what is causing this? Head unit or hull mounted transduce?
#2 How can you tell which part is bad or should I replace both?

Check the ground to the head unit. Also check to see the transducer is mounted securely to the hull if it is loose it will give eratic readings.

The hummingbird 600 HDR head units had software issues, replace it with a 610 and you will be fine. Search on this topic and you will find lots of threads....
