I have a 2006 216 with a stock prop which I bought to be a crossover boat leaning more heavily towards skiing than riding. Should I consider a prop change to make it the best ski boat it can be?

RE: Prop change
I saw this in the latest edition of boating magazine. It changes the pitch of the prop with tabs on the trailing edges of the prop. www.veem.com.au

RE: Prop change
What engine and prop are you currently running? Ill assume that you have the Excal and Acme 422.
You would gain a *little* performance out of the hole and on the top end if you switched to the Acme 470. You would also run nearly 200rpm more than you currently do. Its probably not worth the cost to upgrade, unless your current prop is damaged or you would like to have a good backup. The 422 is a good prop.1990 Ski Nautique

Re: RE: Prop change
What this does is add cup, which is a good way to effectively add pitch at higher rpm's. For instance Correct Craft uses the same diameter and pitch (12.5" x15.5") prop on the 196 for both the Excal. and ZR6, but they are different props due the greater amount of cup on the ZR6 prop. Interestng note, I have a spare Acme I bought when I had my '02 196 with an Excal. and put it on one of my later model Zr6's. It spun way more rpm's at the top end(about 200 more at the very top end, couldn't tell for sure because it very easily hit the rev limiter) but only around 40-50 rpm's at skiing speeds. I had to adjust the baselines on the 34 and 36 speeds by raising the baselines by 40 and 50 rpms to run good times with the Excal prop. I talked to Acme and found out that even though it is the same diameter and pitch, they were different part numbers due to the greater amount of cup on the ZR6 prop.Originally posted by ffmedic74I saw this in the latest edition of boating magazine.
