    2020 G23 won't start

    Hello,
I’m having a hard time getting my new-to-me G23 to start. I’ve only tried starting it on three different occasions, and every time it has been finicky.

The first time was Monday when I took it to get disinfected. I switched the battery to ON, pressed Start/Linc, then pressed Start a second time. The blue lights came on and I could hear some whirring in the background. When I pressed Start a third time, nothing happened. I played with it for about 15 minutes, and eventually it decided to start—and then it fired right up. I drove away from the disinfection station, pulled over, and called the dealer I bought it from. While he was on the phone, I pressed Start and, of course, it started immediately.

The second time was later that same day. I put the boat in the water and again spent about 10–15 minutes trying to get it started before it finally fired up. Since I was already on the water, I never shut it off because I was worried it wouldn’t restart and I’d end up stranded in the middle of the lake.

The third time was today (Friday). I had the ProSport12 trickle charger connected for about 4–5 hours. I switched the battery to Combine and had the same issue. Press Start—everything looks normal, the warning comes up, and the vent fan works. Press Start a second time—again, everything seems fine, I hear the whirring sound and the two blue LEDs come on. Press Start a third time, and then nothing.

I played with it a few more times and jiggled the throttle. I’m not sure what I did, but eventually it started. I shut it off immediately since it was out of the water, and it restarted right away. I stopped it and started it again a third time with no problem.

After leaving it alone for a few minutes, though, I tried again and got nothing. On one attempt, I heard it crank for maybe a quarter of a second before stopping.

When I press Start the second time, I always hear the whirring sound. If I remove the safety lanyard, I hear a relay click, and when I put it back on, I hear another relay click, so I assume that part is working. However, when I press and hold Start, I don’t hear anything.

Linc shows the battery voltage at around 12.7–12.8 V, fluctuating slightly.

Any ideas on what I should check? It seems strange that it will eventually start after messing with it for a while, but then sometimes starts perfectly several times in a row.

    What did the Dealer suggest?
I'm not sure on a '20, but quite possibly (keyword search "throttle base"), you are describing the symptoms:
