Nick in front skag

I was under the lift today cleaning the boat and noticed what I would call a small nick in what I would call the front skag, google leads me to believe that it might technically be called a tracking fin . There was a little feather of metal that I bent out for the 2nd picture and then it broke off. The skag is not bent at all and there is no visible damage to the mounting location. No clue when or how it happened. Any reason I should replace it?

No, but it wouldn’t hurt to take a file and clean it up a bit. But even that is questionable if it would make any material difference. Yes, they are tracking fins.

I agree that that damage is likely not worth the trouble of replacing the fin. If you decide you want to though, we have new and good used ones available here:
