I would agree. I was on public water 3 miles from my house for 25 years. 4 people in a 196 for 3 hours.
We would put our skis behind the driver or under the bow. No matter what you are going to be strecthed for space. Thats why I would rather have that trunk space be removed and opened up to create more user space. I have not owend a boat for more then 1 year, but how long can that material on the trunks last from being stepped, kneeled and dragged on.
I would think that would be the first spot to go. But I would still go with a 206. I see that the LXI has new carpet and vinyl for 06. They must have known that the old stuff did not work. Lets hope the new stuff is as good as CC.

Don't listen to these tainted comments. Read SGY's comments on the Crew's site - a truly objective opinion from a 196 owner. Look, all the boats ski well. Order is probably 196, RLXi, 206. It also depends on your speed and whether or not you look at the hull before you leave the dock. There's some emotional element in the preference in wakes and driving characteristics that comes through these opinions. I have video of the 07 RLXi at 15, 22, 28, 32, 35 and 38 off if you want it. You have to live with what you buy, not anyone on either of these sites. Carlson has a nice boat. If you like it, buy it. I really like SGY's 196, but given the family situation, the open bow makes life much better for family and friends. S is smoking something on the locker situation. S, you need to get out of the frozen tundra and thaw out the brain cells. Promo guy and objective opion - oxysomething?? The locker might hold lunch, but not much more. It's tremendously useful. Like a garage, the bigger it is, the more crap that finds its way into it. I went with the RLXi for a number of reasons that were better for me. You have to figure out what it is that will make you feel comfortable.

I had a 99 Snob. Nice boat but less roomy than the RLXi, 196 or 206. Cramped everywhere.

Eficht. Re-read Mark-S comments. He wasn't saying you could fit two full size skies in the 206 locker. He was quoting Edwin.

You just gotta go with the boat that makes you giddy on the inside. Every boat has its pluses and minuses. Unless you're talking about a 1988 2001 SN, wake quality on all of these boats are excellent--and very subjective. Thus all the differing opinions.

TSC1 was 97-01 on the closed bows. Not sure if they offered the open bow in 97, but it continued through '02 on the TSC1 hull.

ok, well, sorry S. too quick on the trigger. will you still let me ski in MN? Carlson says hi - he's sking really well now that he's in double hard shells. the 07 RLXi has more freeboard and is better in rough water than the 03-06RLXi. like SGY says, and like I was trying to convey, it's your call and you have to like the boat. i took edwin's advice and put some more cash in my kid's §529. They are even starting to look at deisel engines in these things now. so, just when you buy it, there will be another feature that's better than what we own.

I hate lockers. I want wide open space. SGY, I was wondering when you would get in on this. I am just waiting for skisix38 to get in.
The main thing that I get from all this is that the 196 is the boat/wake that all other boats are compared with.

Who posted the pics of the 206 and the rlxi floating at the gunwales? That should tell people to stay away from those low draft bows on the big 3.

Yeah, I was waiting for some skiing discussion on this board. Lately its been all wakeboarding. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

When I was in Orlando back in November, went skiing with Steve Carlson, Eficht, Steve's wife, and three kids--and all our gear. The 07 RLXi was crowded but no way you could do that with the 196. The kids sat in the bow. I like the new RLXi--sans the new windshield. If Malibu made their locker as deep as the 206/196 locker, that would be cool. You can get alot of junk off the floor with the rear locker. I like things as tidy as possible in my boat. Hate clutter. I view vests, ropes, handles, gloves, towels, etc as clutter. Skis on the floor I don't mind so much.

Skisix is loading up his reply.

I have just picked up my 2007 model 206 with tsc3 hull and have skied behind several Lxi responses. At 48km (sorry work in km in Australia) the wake behind the 206 is far smaller and forgiving than the Lxi as for comfort you just cant beat the egornomics of the correct craft dash seat position etc. Only on problem I need the ski racks that correct craft produced for inside the boat!!! If anyone knows were I can get a set please let me know

                        rleinen79 has a SNOB, 1997.

For those mentioning the "open space" in the TSC 1 boats... there is no open space! My 00 is a friggin canoe. Now, the 1990, that thing had some serious open space.

See if these are what you are looking for, your dealer should be able to get them for you, I ordered them with my 206.

well, i hear that ryan has indeed ordered his 07 LXi with a tower. apparently all started because the malibu dealer in his area took way too long to get back to him, like possibly months. then he even had to go to the dealer and forcefully put his money down because the dealer wouldn't return calls to schedule a time. now there's a man who wanted the 'bu. get it serviced at a cc dealer and enjoy your ride, drive and pull.

I have a TSC1 boat but I ski more with a TSC3 boat and sometimes with a 2006 Lxi. I’m just a 32 off skier and I have to say I can’t notice any difference between these boat wakes. If I would blind ski I’m sure I could not say the boat I’m skiing behind. I have too many things to think when I’m in the course…
If you ski 39 off as Mark I understand wake could be an issue but if you don’t you have to think in your body position and not in your wake.

I don't want to disappoint and not reply but the last time I was on here just to say that Malibu's weren't a bad boat -everyone's panties got all bound up.

Mark, skiers like you and I can ski behind anything and we know good and well that given a choice of which boat we'll choose the boat, no matter brand, that comes with a driver that we're more comfortable with. That said, you're smoking crack to say that the 206 drives as well as the 196. 95% of the drvers out there will never notice a difference between the two boats and that's a good thing or else everyone would be running 38.

For a person that is looking to ski, have fun with the family and protect their wallet - I think there are three things to be concerned with because all the boats will provide a good pull and drivability. 1 What dealer seems to fit you and your style better. 2. What boat do you look at in the garage, on the trailer and in the water and think to yourself "hey sexy". And 3. where can you get a better deal? While a couple grand isn't a big deal when talking about any of the big three it's a summer's worth of gasoline.
