Handle Clamp Piece on Strapless Board Racks

Has anyone on here had the rubber on there's start to deteriorate, crack, and come apart.......now won't really hold the boards in the rack?

Called Roswell and the parts tech guy said I have to buy the entire "plunger" piece. That thing is $100 !!!
I asked him "so I have to buy a $100 piece just to get a "probably" $15 piece of plastic and rubber replaced?" and he said "you are 1 of MANY that have asked that same frustrating question and Roswell has no plans of selling just that handle as a replacement part."

What has anyone done to replace or a "replacement idea and fix" for that piece when this happens without giving in to Roswell's total BS for a sh*tty designed part to begin with??

I sent picture of my broken piece to Roswell and they sent me 4 $100 pieces all at no charge even with racks out of warranty. I guess it really depends who you get on the other end of the phone line as far was what Roswell is willing to cover.

I know this post is a couple of years old, but my rubber pieces have deteriorated to the point that they will not hold the boards in place. I purchased new plungers from NP hoping just to remove the rubber piece but they are connected with an internal bungee strap. Looks to me that the whole rack needs to be taken apart to insert the new plungers. Is this correct or is their an easier way to replace them?
Anyone had any experience with the replacement?

Update!!
I just ordered 4 new “just the handle” pieces. Called Roswell again just to see what they would say being a couple years later.
They now sale just the handle for $21 each!!!!
To swap them out, you have to take the allen screw at the bottom of the spline out. This will release the tension on the bungee cord. There is a small loop in the bungee that the allen screw goes through that holds the bungee in place. Then take out the allen screw holding the handle in place. There is also a loop in the bungee at the top.
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO LET THE BUNGEE FALL OUT THE BOTTOM of the spline once you remove the top screw to take off the old handle. Put the new handle on, line up the hole in the handle with the hole in the spline, & make sure the loop of the bungee cord is also lined up with the holes from inside the spline. So when you insert the screw it goes through the loop in the bungee cord. Put the lock nut on & tighten. Now, at the bottom of the spline you’ll need to take a small “hook tool” like from an automotive pick set (car guys will refer to them as a “booger hook pick”) & grab the loop in the bungee cord & pull it down so it’s lined up with the hole in the spline so when you put the allen screw back in, it goes through the loop. Put the lock nut back on the screw & you’re done.

Good to know. $84 vs $400 is quite a difference but too late for me. I'll know next time.
