I recommended you go with the 1997 if you love slalom because of the TSC hull.

+1 for the improved ski wake on the 97.
2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)
1997 Masters Edition Nautique - Zephyr Green - gone (amazing ski wake)
1982 Mastercraft Powerslot - gone (a primitive but wonderful beast)

I owned the NWZ hull (1994 Ski). OK wake, but nothing special. Sexy looking boat. The 1996 has the NWZ hull. The 1997 with TSC hull is far superior. My current boat is a 2001 year with TSC hull. Very nice wake.

It would seem that if performance is the goal then based on the overwhelming comments from those that know these boats the 97 is your boat.

From a price/value perspective which I'm thinking is what you're looking for comment on due to the price difference in 2 boat that are just a year off in age then with throwing performance aside my advice would be to look at overall condition. I say this as I've seen first hand 5 YO, one owner, 200 hour boats that were absolute junk due to those 5 years of sitting outside uncovered. Make you want to cry. I've also seen and owned 10 YO boats with 750 hours that looked like they stepped out of the showroom. Anytime you look at a used vehicle and especially a used boat condition is everything. The older they are the you important it is. Both these boats are 20+ years old and with that so many things can come into play to determine the values. An interior on either of these boats will set you back $5K - $8K depending on the quality of the installation and who's doing it. Same goes for the engine/trans.

So if we have a pure "which is the better ski boat" your answer is the 97. If we have a pure "which is the better value boat" then the answer is, it depends.....
