    You're 100% right on this, after reading all the comments and watching it over I realized that there are too many things that are questionable about the methodology for it to be considered accurate so I deleted my comment - mea culpa. Also, there's the "push" factor which seems unquantifiable and is probably different for everyone but I think it's a combination of dispersion arc angle of the wake and compression of the sub-surface water that isn't really measured in any useful way.

    Finally, clearly the parallax effect and angle of view can deceptively make a tiny wave look like a monster like this:
