On my new boat I have a knock in the steering. I noticed this right away, on the boats maiden voyage. The knock sounds like something hitting the fiberglass around/under the dash. The sound was very pronounced and more frequent over rough water.
I also noticed and could feel it more if I was turning the boat. It seems like it may be in the steering rack.
I got under the dash to see if there was anything banging around and did notice the air temp sensor and a few other things loose that could be the cause. i secured everything under there, there is nothing banging around now. I even lubed the end of the steering rack the best I could.
Now that the boat has more hours on it, and we are on a calmer lake. I rarely hear the knock.
However, the other day, I was running the boat near top speed and the knock was very consistent. I could feel it in the steering. It seems like it is coming from the steering.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
