Plywood Engine Slider Panels

I need to switch out my engine slider panels on a 03 SANTE. I have a ton of nice 3/4 in around mu shop and some metal. Didn't know if anyone has done this with ply....or is it a bad idea. I see a lot of posts with HDPE board or purchase of walls from Wave.... Any thoughts or comments? Thanks D

Also...was hoping to keep a two piece system....being it's easier for access.

IMO, the biggest issue you are looking at is the high possibility of mold growing on the plywood and why HDPE is normally used. 3/4" plywood will be plenty strong when you add some support brackets, but it will absorb moisture, start delaminating/deforming unless you seal it with several coats of a really good primer and paint, especially all the outside edges (possibly something like rhino liner could work well and could last longer too). My guess is no matter how well you seal it you will be looking to replace it every 2-3 years since wood just doesnt hold up well in a marine environment. Definitely doable tho if you prep it right

There is a reason that Correct Craft stopped using wood... That said you might get a year out two at the most out of something...

You live in a dry climate. It’s probably fine. Most boat owners live in a lot more humid climate that you. It’s not like they are structural. I wouldn’t hesitate. If they rot out it’s a cheap replacement.

Or just apply some cheap resin, they would last for years. Another alternative (slightly cheaper) besides HDPE is trextrim composite fascia board, basically water proof and you can get it at lowes. I’m going on year 3 and they’re holding up nicely.

Thanks for the advice.....I think I am going to give it a go at least for the next month or two.....on a tight budget and the 750's are making me nervous. I was thinking a two piece like the one in there, and then a cross bar diagonal corners bottom to top......one or two with bolt on engine side. Feel free to chime in is people think this is a bad idea.
