99 Sport Nautique investment

I have a 99 Sport Nautique that needs all new upholstery and want to know if you guys think I’m better off replacing all of it or just some of it? I paid 11,000 for the boat with 350 hours. I’m going to wetsand and buff entire boat and re-decal. Also not sure if i want to change to air Nautique decals as well since i have tower and ballast. What’s your opinions on that. Im also currently replacing manifolds and risers so I’ve got a grand into that. Just want to see if you guys think my investment will come back out when i sell this boat. Full upholstery is around $3700 from c and s. Thanks look forward to hearing everyone’s opinions

I think you have to make the choice as to whether to make those upgrades to the boat based on how much more they will allow you to enjoy your time on the water. I would not look at it as an investment where you are likely to see a substantial increase in value over a few years based on your inputs now. If it looks great next to comparables you might fetch a little more money but I’m not sure you’ll increase the value to the mid/upper teens. You’ll be lucky to recover your costs imho but if you gain enjoyment then it may be worth it.

If you're doing any of the interior, do ALL of it. No matter how hard you try, you'll never get new vinyl to match due to some sun fading. In addition, the vinyl you leave will be nearly 20 years old now. It's brittle and will crack eventually. At some point, you'll have done it all anyway. Better to just do all of it at once.

I agree, do all of the upholstery if you do any.

At this point, you'll have more into it than it will be worth though, so don't count on making a profit on the sale after the work is complete. Just enjoy it and know that it is an awesome boat.

If you remove the existing graphics, you will likely have some ghosting that can be pretty difficult to remove, so you might consider staying with the same graphics when you replace so that they can go back onto the same locations.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. It seems like I’m going to have to take the plunge and get all the skins and I’ll probably get carpet while I’m at it!

Boat = A hole in the water you throw money into.
Bank = A place to place money and maybe get a increase in value?
Any money put into a boat has to be for the sheer joy of ownership. It is very rare it will break even on the cost.
